Matthias Günther
born in 1963 in Kassel, studied “cultural science and aesthetic practice” in Hildesheim. Since 1985, he has directed, and acted in, non-municipal theatre projects. Between 1993 and 1997, he was a scientific fellow at the Institute for Media and Theatre Sciences at the University of Hildesheim and then worked as a head of theatre at the Federal Academy for Cultural Education Wolfenbüttel. Matthias Günther was a Guest Dramatic Adviser at the Schauspielhaus Vienna, the Salzburg Festival and the Schauspielhaus Zürich and, from 1998, was Acting Dramatic Adviser and Director at the Theater Basel. Since September 2006, he has been the Dramatic Adviser at the Münchner Kammerspiele. Matthias Günther was a Member of the Impulse 2007 Festival Selection Jury.

Matthias von Hartz – artistic director
born in Augsburg in 1970, studied economics at the London School of Economics and stage direction at the University of Hamburg. He has been involved in projects at international co-production centres and festivals and at various state theatres, most recently at the Deutsche Schauspielhaus in Hamburg and at the Sophiensælen in Berlin. The ALLES MUSS MAN SELBER MACHEN (I always have to do everything myself) project was invited to take part at Impulse and at others festivals. He created and staged the GO CREATE™ RESISTANCE series on the consequences of neo-liberal globalisation with artists, activists and scientists for the Deutsche Schauspielhaus in Hamburg. Over the past few years, he has been curating political-artistic topical evenings at the museum kunstpalast Düsseldorf, at the Schauspielhaus Zürich, at the Ruhrtriennale and at the schauspielfrankfurt, to name but a few. Since 2006, he has – along with Tom Stromberg – been Artistic Director of Impulse and, since 2007, Director of the Internationale Sommertheaterfestival (International Summer Theatre Festival) Hamburg, Kampnagel.

Xavier Le Roy
studied molecular biology at the University of Montpellier and has worked as a dancer and choreographer since 1991. From 1997 to 2003 he was artist in residence at the Podewil, Berlin. He choreographed solo performances SELF UNFINISHED (1998), PRODUCT OF CIRCUMSTANCES (1999), was invited by Tanz im August Festival to work with Yvonne Rainer MEETINGS (2000), realized a piece from Jérôme Bel XAVIER LE ROY (2000); choreographed GISZELLE (2001 - in collaboration with Eszter Salamon) and PROJECT (2003). He also staged DAS THEATER DER WIEDERHOLUNGEN (2003) an opera from Bernhard Lang and MOUVEMENTS FÜR LACHENMANN (2005) an evening concert with music from Helmut Lachenmann. With the Berliner Philharmoniker Educational Project he choreographed IONISATION from Edgar Varèse with 40 children. Since 2004 he is involved in various educational programs. In 2007 he choreographed a solo on the music of Igor Stravinsky LE SACRE DU PRINTEMPS. In 2008 he continues is research on musician gesture and creates MORE MOUVEMENTS FÜR LACHENMANN. In 2007-2008 he is “associated artist” at Centre Chorégraphique National de Montpellier.

Carena Schlewitt
born in Leipzig in 1961. With the beginning of the season 2008/09 Carena Schlewitt became Artistic Director of the Kaserne Basel. Between 1985 and 1993, she worked in the performing arts department/theatre of the Akademie der Künste in East Berlin, worked for the Podewil, Berlin in 1999 and was a freelancer for the Theater der Welt 1999 festival, which also took place in Berlin. Between 1999 and 2003, she was a Dramatic Adviser and Deputy Artistic Director at the newly-founded Forum Freies Theater in Düsseldorf, before returning to Berlin and the Hebbel-am-Ufer as the Curator in 2003. Carena Schlewitt has been responsible for the creation and execution of various co-productions, festivals, guest performances and program focuses.

Tom Stromberg – artistic director
born in Wilhelmshaven in 1960. He was Director of Theater Am Turm (TAT) in Frankfurt, Artistic Director of the EXPO 2000 cultural program in Hanover and Director of the Deutsche Schauspielhaus in Hamburg, which was voted Theatre of the Year for the 2004/05 season under his directorship. In 2005, he became a shareholder and co-Managing Director of the wasihrwollt PRODUCTIONS GmbH theatre production company together with Peter Zadek and Antje Landshoff-Ellermann. They founded the w.i.w. Akademie Brandenburg, providing further education for new theatre talent. Currently, he is collaborating on theatre productions with Jan Bosse, Jérôme Bel, Laurent Chétouane, Stefan Pucher and, since 2006, has been co-Artistic Director of Impulse alongside Matthias von Hartz.

Christine Wahl
born in Dresden and studied German, philosophy and sociology in Freiburg i. Br. and Berlin. Since 1995, she has been a freelance journalist and theatre critic for Spiegel online, Theater heute, Tagesspiegel Berlin and taz, to name but a few. Christine Wahl has been a member of various juries, including that of the Mülheimer Theatertage and the Berlin Senate.

Katharina Bischoff
born in 1978, graduated from Justus-Liebig-Universität-Giessen in 2007 in Applied Theatre Studies. She is currently working for the Festival Impulse.

Esther Boldt
born in 1979, Esther studied applied theatre science in Giessen and has been living and working as a freelance theatre critic and journalist in Frankfurt am Main since 2005 (including www.nachtkritik.de, taz, Theater der Zeit, Stuttgarter Nachrichten).

Judith Helmer
born in 1978, studied theatre and music sciences in Vienna with subsequent research trip to London. She is the co-publisher of the book NOT EVEN A GAME ANYMORE. Since 2006, Judith Helmer has been the press spokesperson for the Wiener Konzerthaus and is a member of the CORPUS (www.corpusweb.net) Internet editorial team.

Claudia Plöchinger
born in 1977, lives in Hamburg and works as a Dramatic Adviser and project manager within various contexts. Among other things, she worked on Matthias von Hartz’s GO CREATE™ RESISTANCE topic series as well being the associate producer of Showcase Beat Le Mot. Currently, she is curating the Du – D.E.U.T.S.C.H.L.A.N.D. project, which opens the Schauspiel Köln season.

Jan Philipp Possmann
studied theatre and political sciences at the Free University of Berlin. He has staged several theatre performances since 1999 in collaboration with the postproduktion association of producers. Between 2005 and 2007, he curated and managed the International Performance Festival Plateaux at the Künstlerhaus Mousonturm, Frankfurt/Main. He is Festival Dramatic Adviser for the Internationale Schillertage at the Nationaltheater Mannheim and was the Dramatic Adviser, and one of the artistic directors, of the Sophiensaele, Berlin, for the 2007/2008 season.

Gregor Runge
studied theatre science in Bochum and, among other things, has worked for off limits, the RuhrTriennale and Impulse 07. He was a scout for “favoriten08 – Theaterzwang”.
