Anna Mendelssohn – Cry Me A River

A one-woman climate conference: at a long table a woman philosophizes about world events and society‘s helplessness in the face of them. She cries. And every now and again she dances. In her monologue the voices of politicians, scientists, surgeons, activists and deep ecologists merge together with personal reflections to form an associative, polyphonic text montage. Cry Me a River slides over the thin ice between inner and outer worlds, between the personal and the political.

Anna Mendelssohn
Anna Mendelssohn studied theatre in England at Dartington College of Arts and at Bretton Hall's School of Performing Arts. She has performed since 2004 as a member of the ensemble toxic dreams. Beforehand, she had starred in twelve of the company's productions. She has also worked alongside David Mayaan, Cie Loulou Omer, Daniel Aschwanden and Linda Taylor, amongst other people. Her own works include the joint duet developed with Jan Machacek and entitled outside i (2008), and the solo Cry Me A River (winner of the Jury and Co-Production Prizes at the Arena Festival, Erlangen, in 2010). Her latest work, art for a lonely heart, will be performed for the first time ever as part of a joint project between the Wiener Festwochen and the Tanzquartier Wien in May/June 2011.
