Berlin – Tagfish

Six men are waiting for a sheikh – a sheikh who never comes. For six years Sheikh Hani Yamani has been planning to turn the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex (a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Germany) into a designer city with a luxury hotel to the tune of 150 million euros. The video installation by the group called BERLIN brings together real politicians, architects, journalists and lobbyists in a fictitious conference and shows in absurd and comic manners how a major project can be prolonged and finally fail at the hands of German bureaucracy.

BERLIN
BERLIN started the Holocene series (the current geological era) in 2003. Their projects always start in a city or a region of the world. Bart Baele was a student at the Amsterdam School of the Arts until 2000. He now works as a stage and video designer for a variety of companies. Yves Degryse studied at the Dora van der Groen actors' studio in Antwerp until 2000. He founded the SKaGeN collective and now works as an actor as part of the Marius Company.
