Hans-Werner Kroesinger - RUANDA REVISITED

800.000 men, women, and children were murdered in Ruanda in 1994. Yet how can genocide be made understandable? Documentary theatre maker Hans Werner Kroesinger does not stop at facts and figures, descriptions, and backgrounds. His subversive test arrangement on violence calls the audience from their passivity.

Attention, though: there is no guarantee for the ethically correctness.

[Translate to Englisch:] Über Hans-Werner Kroesinger

Born in 1962, Hans Werner Kroesinger, studied at the Institute for Applied Theatre Studies in Gießen Germany, worked as the assistant director with Robert Wilson and was an artistic collaborator for Heiner Müller’s “Hamlet/Hamletmachine” in 1989/90. Kroesinger is one of the foremost German exponents of documentary theatre. His pieces deal with questions regarding political acts, such as the Eichmann trial, The German Autumn or the history of colonialism, all the while playing with the attitudes and positioning of the audience. His productions were seen at the Bayerischen Staatsschauspiel, the ZKM Karlsruhe, the Staatstheater Stuttgart, the Stadttheater Aachen, the FFT Düsseldorf and in Berlin at the Berliner Ensemble, the Theater an der Parkaue, the Maxim Gorki Theater, the Sophiensaelen and the HAU, to name a few.
